As a parent, there may be a time in your life when you have to deal with issues of Child Custody. When working through the Court to determine your rights and responsibilities regarding your child, the key concept is finding a solution that is in the best interests of the child within the confines of the Parent’s circumstances. Our goal is to help you determine what you can realistically expect from these proceedings, and to help you understand how that will affect you and your child long-term.
When dealing with Child Custody in the state of Florida, there are two aspects of the law to consider. The first is dealing with Parental Responsibility. This determines the decision making authority of each parent. This is usually a 50/50 split, but in some circumstances one parent may have a “deciding vote” in major decisions such as healthcare and education.
The second component is Time Sharing. This determines each Parent’s allotted time to spend with the child. There is no norm here, and is determined on a case by case basis with consideration of each Parent’s circumstances.
We want you to understand exactly how this process works, what your options are, and what the consequences of those actions may be. We strive towards an agreement that is not only suitable, but also sustainable. Avoiding future court appearances and litigation is one of our primary goals. We want to lay a foundation that will ultimately lead to a better tomorrow for both you and your child.
